PlanUW

The University of Wisconsin is leading an effort to modernize its budgeting functions. As a part of this effort, UW-Madison has implemented a new system called PlanUW as the platform to support planning and budgeting activities.

The functionality that PlanUW offers:

    • Supports the business processes related to the University’s budget model
    • Provides robust reporting and ad-hoc analysis
    • Optimizes the forecasting process
    • Enhances multi-year strategic planning
    • Provides simplified access to the data with the integration of Smartview connectors.

PlanUW uses Oracle’s Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (PBCS) application.

UW-System successfully implemented Phase 1 of the PlanUW project in FY19 to support the creation of the FY20 annual operating budget (Redbook). In Phase 2, and beyond, UW-Madison will focus on continuing to meet UWS requirements for data submission while focusing effort and resources to develop and implement business processes (and associated technology solutions) to meet our campuses needs. This project focuses on in year forecasting of revenue and expenditures.

The project will work under the same guiding principles outlined for the Administrative Transformation Program to reimagine UW-Madison’s administrative infrastructure (in this case budget and planning) through people, process, and technology to:

  • Be of the right complexity to advance our mission.
  • Sustain and produce more efficiencies.
  • Provide meaningful metrics and information.

PlanUW Forecasting project uses the foundational budget functions implemented in Phase 1 of the project. UW System has implemented base forecasting in the PlanUW system for all campuses outside of UW-Madison. We have received approval to implement a more expansive system.
